About Us

At the Defeating Epilepsy Foundation, we work to improve the quality of life for

individuals living with epilepsy and related neurologic and neurodivergent conditions.

Through advocacy, education, and empowerment, we aim to break down stigma and

build a more inclusive, supportive future. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in San Bernardino County, California, dedicated to advocating for individuals, families, and caregivers affected by epilepsy. With over 3.4 million Americans battling epilepsy, the foundation seeks to create better educational and economic opportunities and empower individuals and caregivers to achieve overall wellness. Role Description

This is a remote role for a Fundraising/Sponsorship Development Officer. The individual in this role will lead efforts to secure funding by developing and implementing fundraising initiatives, managing sponsorship programs, and nurturing relationships with donors. Day-to-day responsibilities include researching funding opportunities, creating proposals, managing annual giving programs, and collaborating with the team to meet sponsorship goals. This position is key to ensuring the organization's mission and programs are supported and sustained.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, identify, and secure corporate and individual sponsors for events, programs, and campaigns.
  • Develop customized sponsorship packages and pitch decks.
  • Build and nurture relationships with sponsors, donors, and community stakeholders
  • Collaborate with event coordinators to ensure sponsor benefits and recognition are fulfilled.
  • Maintain up-to-date donor and sponsor records in CRM systems.
  • Assist in writing grant applications and reporting to funders as needed.
  • Partner with marketing/communications teams to create fundraising content and recognition campaigns.
  • Track key fundraising metrics and prepare regular performance reports.

 

What We’re Looking For:

Qualifications

  • Experience with fundraising, philanthropy, and annual giving strategies.
  • Proven ability to develop win-win partnerships with corporate and community partners.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in conducting research to identify and pursue funding opportunities.
  • Ability to create compelling proposals and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Passion for advocacy work and knowledge of epilepsy or a willingness to learn about the challenges faced by those living with epilepsy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, or a related field is advantageous.
  • 2+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or sales (experience securing sponsorships a plus)
  • Experience with donor databases or CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, DonorPerfect, DonorBox).
  • Self-starter with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Passion for our mission and a commitment to ethical fundraising.

  • Existing network of potential sponsors or local business contacts.
  • Event planning experience.
  • Familiarity with grant writing and reporting.
