Jr. Data Analyst
Our Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for a detail-oriented Jr. Data Analyst to join our growing team. The ideal candidate is a data detective with proven experience of uncovering hidden data insights and patterns and communicating them to stakeholders with compelling story telling. This role plays a key part in identifying cost-saving opportunities and improving claim accuracy across Group Health and Worker’s Compensation plans. Jr. Data Analyst brings strong statistics and modeling background, hands-on experience with healthcare claims data, strong technical skills (SQL, Python, Power BI), and a passion for improving healthcare.
This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work arrangement. Candidates located near the company office may be expected to work onsite up to 2-3 days per week. Remote employees may be required to travel to the Portland office location based on business needs. This role reports to the Senior Director of Data Science.
Responsibilities
- Analyze Group Health and Workers’ Compensation claims data to identify cost-savings opportunities for potential and existing clients, billing practices, errors, and overpayments.
- Build, validate, and maintain statistical models that uncover trends and drive informed business decisions from healthcare data.
- Work closely with operational and sales teams to interpret data patterns and recommend process improvements.
- Build and maintain reports and dashboards that monitor claim activity and performance metrics.
- Translate business requirements into technical specifications for analytical projects.
- Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field.
- 3+ years of experience applying statistical modeling techniques and methodologies (such as Six Sigma, regression analysis, or hypothesis testing) and analyzing healthcare claims or related healthcare data.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python or R, Tableau or Power BI for data analysis and visualizations.
- Experience working with SQL databases and database tools (e.g., MySQL Workbench, DBeaver).
- Strong understanding of healthcare reimbursement methodologies and claims adjudication.
- Experience working in payment integrity, healthcare cost containment, or audit functions.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future company sponsorship.
Preferred:
- Experience with medical coding standards (e.g., ICD, CPT, HCPCS).
- Familiarity with Medicare Advantage, Group Health and Worker’s Compensation payer systems.
