Scholar Services Coordinator

The Scholar Services Coordinator (SSC) plays a vital role in supporting San Francisco Achievers (SFA) by managing Scholar services, mentoring programs, and events. Reporting to the Program Manager with oversight from the Executive Director, the SSC’s primary responsibilities include overseeing financial aid support, scholarships, mentorship, and leadership development for African American youth in San Francisco.

Key Responsibilities

Scholars Program

  • Financial Aid Support: Leads SFA's Postsecondary Financial Aid Initiative by assessing financial aid needs, researching external scholarship opportunities, and maintaining a scholarship clearinghouse. Provides personalized financial aid guidance to Scholars and ensures they have access to relevant resources.
  • Scholarship Management: Coordinates the internal and external application processes, facilitates selection panels, and manages volunteer participation.
  • Student Resource Liaison: Acts as a primary contact for students, parents, stakeholders, and educational institutions to support each Scholar’s financial needs, ensuring ongoing support throughout their academic journey.
  • Internship Opportunities: Connects Scholars with internship programs, facilitating experiences that align with career aspirations and college readiness.

Case Management

  • Student Needs Assessment: Conducts intake meetings to understand each student’s academic, social, and personal needs, developing individualized success plans.
  • Academic & Personal Coaching: Provides ongoing coaching, sets personal and academic goals, and connects students with support services as needed.
  • Crisis Intervention: Offers support and resources to students facing personal, financial, or academic challenges, ensuring continuity in their academic progress.
  • Progress Monitoring: Tracks each Scholar’s academic and personal progress, documenting key performance data to identify and support students at risk.

Mentorship Program

  • Recruitment & Outreach: Leads efforts to recruit quality mentors and refine outreach strategies. Engages with community organizations to expand the mentor pool.
  • Mentor Support: Oversees mentor training, matches mentors and mentees, and regularly evaluates mentorship relationships to ensure effectiveness and provide necessary support.
  • Program Evaluation: Monitors mentor engagement, documents mentor hours, and reports on mentorship impact to continuously enhance the program.

Leadership Academy 

  • Leadership Academy Development: Collaborates with the Executive Director and Programs Manager to strengthen the Leadership Academy, focusing on academic, social, and professional growth.
  • School & Community Partnerships: Builds relationships with schools and community organizations to support recruitment and engagement.
