School/Community Advocate

Description:

To facilitate school/student/parent interaction in such a way as to enhance the learning opportunities of students.

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.
3. Bilingual in English and Yup’ik/Cup’ik preferred.
4. At least two years demonstrated successful work experience in education preferred.
5. Ability to establish rapport and communications with students, faculty, administration, and parents.
6. Ability to live and work in a cross-cultural, rural Alaskan environment.
7. Ability to successfully carry out the duties described below.

Duties:

1. Provides information to parents about student’s progress.
2. Confers with parents regarding home-school problems.
3. Networks with community agencies and organizations that may be of assistance to parents, students, and the school.
4. Attend Advisory School Board (ASB) meetings, if required.
5. Meets with individual students who have problems of an educational, social or emotional nature, upon referral.
6. Cooperates with classroom teachers to determine individual student problems.
7. Coordinates activities with resource person to smooth functioning for the program.
8. Maintains accurate attendance records and submits reports to site administrators.
9. With supervisors approval, transports parents of students to and from appropriate activities.
10. Attends meeting and training sessions as scheduled.
11. Initiates parent involvement activities.
12. Participates in teacher and parent orientation regarding the school program.
13. Promotes understanding among students, teacher, family, and school,

Salary:$24.34 to $30.83 Per HourJob Requirements
