Traditional Cultural Specialist

To provide competent instruction to students in the area of stated expertise.

Qualifications:

1. High School Diploma or GED preferred.
2. Thorough knowledge of the culture, language and traditions of the village.
3. Knowledge of the Yup’ik language is preferred.
4. Demonstrated knowledge and abilities in stated areas of expertise.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
6. Ability to live and work in a rural Alaskan environment.
7. Ability to work cooperatively with administrators, classroom teachers, and aides.
8. Ability to carry out the duties described below.

Duties:

1. Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, develop instruction plan, acquire necessary supplies and equipment and provide instruction to involved students in the traditional Yup’ik/Cup’ik culture and language.
2. Under the supervision of the assigned supervisor, supervise students and maintain classroom area.
3. Arrange to display student projects in the school and within the community.
4. Make or provide input for required student evaluation and/or progress reports, if necessary.
