Starting at $37,000 annually (higher based on experience)

The Portage County Historical Society is seeking a creative, organized, and energetic Development & Outreach Coordinator to help expand fundraising, strengthen donor relationships, grow public awareness, and deepen community engagement.

This newly created full-time position is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of one of central Wisconsin’s most dynamic cultural nonprofits.

The Portage County Historical Society shares the stories of Portage County through education and preservation.

From Heritage Park’s historic village and the Rising Star Mill in Nelsonville to exhibits, school programs, concerts, tours, and special events, PCHS connects thousands of people each year with local history in meaningful and engaging ways.

We are a growing organization that has transformed significantly in recent years, expanding our reach, programs, fundraising, and preservation impact - and we’re just getting started.

About the Role

This position plays a key role in helping PCHS grow its fundraising and public engagement efforts.

The Development & Outreach Coordinator will take the lead on many of the day-to-day communications, fundraising, and outreach efforts that help the organization thrive.

This includes:

  • Managing social media and digital communications 
  • Creating email newsletters and fundraising campaigns 
  • Supporting donor stewardship and membership efforts 
  • Coordinating sponsorship fulfillment and outreach 
  • Helping promote events, programs, exhibits, and special initiatives 
  • Managing website updates and community event listings 
  • Assisting with donor and grant prospect research 
  • Supporting ticketing, event communications, and engagement efforts 
  • Representing PCHS in the community as an organizational ambassador

  • Organized and detail-oriented 
  • Comfortable juggling multiple projects at once 
  • Self-motivated and collaborative 
  • Excited about fundraising, outreach, and community engagement 
  • Proficient using social media, email marketing, and digital communication tools 
  • Passionate about mission-driven work 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience 
  • Strong writing and communication skills, not reliant on AI
  • Experience with communications, marketing, fundraising, nonprofit work, or community engagement 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively 

Preferred:

  • Experience with donor databases or CRM systems (Bloomerang a plus) 
  • Event promotion or fundraising experience 
  • Grant writing or prospect research experience 
  • Interest in history, museums, education, or cultural organizations 

Schedule & Work Expectations

This is a full-time, primarily in-person position based in Portage County, Wisconsin.

Some evening and weekend hours will be required for events, programs, and outreach activities.
