Underwater Robotics Intern
EEL Drone is developing next-generation underwater vehicle technology inspired by biological systems for long-endurance ocean monitoring, sensing, and autonomous operations. Our work combines mechanical systems, robotics, hydrodynamics, embedded electronics, and field experimentation to create practical subsea technologies.
We are looking for motivated recent graduates or early-career candidates from STEM backgrounds who enjoy building, testing, and solving real-world engineering problems.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist with development and testing of underwater robotic systems
- Support prototype assembly, troubleshooting, and mechanical integration
- Participate in towing tank, pool, and field testing activities
- Work with sensors, electronics, batteries, propulsion systems, and experimental hardware
- Document test results, observations, and improvement ideas
- Collaborate directly with engineers and researchers in a fast-paced startup environment
Ideal Backgrounds:
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Robotics / Mechatronics
- Ocean Engineering
- Physics or Applied Sciences
- Other related STEM disciplines
Preferred Qualifications:
- Comfortable working with basic hand tools and hardware assembly
- Hands-on project experience from school, clubs, labs, or personal builds
- Familiarity with CAD, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, embedded systems, or robotics is a plus
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently
What We Value Most:
Self-led initiatives are highly valued. We are especially interested in candidates who have built things on their own — personal engineering projects, robotics teams, research prototypes, vehicle builds, coding projects, maker activities, etc. Curiosity, initiative, and problem-solving mindset matter more than perfect experience.
Compensation:
- Hourly or stipend-based depending on experience and availability
- Flexible scheduling possible for students and recent graduates
