DEPUTY COUNTY COURT SERVICES CLERK

Hourly Pay: $18.80

Position Summary

 

Performs a variety of tasks to process civil, domestic, and criminal cases. Requires a high level of professionalism and confidentiality to work with the general public, parties to cases, law enforcement, attorneys, court staff, and judiciary. Hours are Monday through Friday. PAID HOLIDAYS date of hire; 13 holidays annually. Position Description

 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs a variety of tasks to receive, process, and record documents required to be maintained by the office of the County Clerk. Receives and processes all documents for 4th circuit court cases. Provides counter service including receiving and receipting money and providing assistance on court matters to attorneys, law enforcement officers and the public. Assists customers at the counter, answers phones, responds to inquiries related to, circuit court matters, and the procedures of the Clerk’s office via e-mail, fax, and other forms of communication.

Reviews and accepts filings for the Circuit/Family/Juvenile Court for civil, criminal, domestic, appeals, and personal protection order files. Processes civil infractions and traffic misdemeanors, and marine, snowmobile, conservation and other violations for juvenile delinquency matters.

Assists in maintaining the court’s accounting system, including accept, record, and receipt payment of fees, fines and costs, restitution, cash bonds, and all other monetary transactions. Performs daily bookkeeping duties which include balancing register, posting receipts, maintaining bond account records, etc.

Acts as a Court Clerk as needed and serves as Notary for Jackson County residents.


 

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS REQUIRED:

Education: High school graduation or equivalent with classes in office and business. Prefer advanced coursework in data processing, accounting or related area.

Experience: One to two years of experience preferably in a court or law office providing knowledge of the processing of circuit court cases or other relevant work experience. Ability to type 40 wpm.

Other Requirements: Ability to become and remain a Notary Public and LEIN certified.

Relevant Skills/Specialized Equipment Knowledge:
• Photographic, audio and video equipment.
• Computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, database entry and maintenance, and financial applications.
• Ability to use Outlook, JIS, County Fusion, and other court related software.
• Ability to use credit card machine.
• Ability to work with general public, parties to cases, law enforcement, attorneys, court staff, and judiciary.
• Ability to de-escalate customers in emotional or mentally unstable conditions.
 

 

Full-Time, Non-Exempt; Weekday Schedule

This is a full time position with the AFSCME Bargaining Unit offering excellent benefits! PTO accrual, investment plan enrollment and paid holidays upon hire. All other benefits following 90 days of employment.
