K-2 Learning Leader
Grade A Plus, Inc. Job Announcement
K-2 Learning Leader
About Grade A Plus, Inc. Grade A Plus is a community-based academic support and family development program dedicated to helping K-12 students reach their full potential. We operate on a “Wraparound” model, meaning we don’t just tutor—we advocate for the whole child and their family. We are looking for a K-2 Learning Leader who understands that early childhood is the most critical window for closing the achievement gap.
The Role: As the K-2 Learning Leader, you are the architect of the foundational years. You will oversee the academic and social-emotional growth of our youngest scholars, ensuring they transition from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.” This is a leadership role that bridges gaps among our university-aged mentors, students’ families, and their local schools.
Pay range: $25-$30 per hour, depending on experience. Two sessions a week, 30 minutes of preparation per session, 2 hrs/month for meetings. Total: Approx. 6 hrs/week, plus a meeting or Zoom when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Leadership: Design and oversee individual learning plans for K-2 students, with a heavy emphasis on phonemic awareness, literacy, and early numeracy.
- Mentor Management: Supervise and coach a team of university-based tutors (e.g., Mizzou, Lincoln University, Stephens College) and provide them with pedagogical tools to engage early learners.
- Family Advocacy: Act as a liaison for the Family Leader Initiative, helping parents navigate school resources, IEPs, and at-home learning strategies.
- Hybrid Delivery: Facilitate high-energy learning sessions both in person and via Zoom, using digital tools to keep young children focused and motivated.
- Data-Driven Growth: Monitor student progress through regular assessments and adjust tutoring strategies to ensure every child meets grade-level milestones.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Social Work, or a related field (Master’s or practitioner-scholar background preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years working with K-2 populations in an academic or community-based setting.
- Skills: Deep understanding of the “Science of Reading" and early math concepts.
- Familiarity with Positive Youth Development (PYD) and the Ethics of Care framework.
- Strong interpersonal skills for coaching college students and collaborating with diverse families.
- Commitment: A passion for social justice, educational equity, and the Columbia, MO community.
