Compensation: Unpaid. This position is strictly for academic credit and hands-on learning.

Position Overview

Educational Apps Solutions LLC is seeking an analytical, curious UX Research Intern for the summer 2026 semester. In this role, you will work directly with the founder to learn the methodologies behind user-centered research, usability testing, and behavioral analysis within an early-stage educational technology startup.

This internship is designed to provide comprehensive training in product discovery. You will learn how to turn qualitative and quantitative user insights into actionable feedback that shapes our mobile platform's active recall features and user flows.

Educational & Learning Opportunities

  • User Research Methodologies: Learn how to design and conduct user interviews, survey frameworks, and competitive analyses specifically targeted at students aged 13 and older.
  • Usability Testing: Gain hands-on experience setting up, executing, and documenting usability test sessions for a live Minimum Viable Product (MVP) launch.
  • Data Translation: Learn how to synthesize raw user feedback into personas, journey maps, and behavioral insights to guide the product roadmap.
  • Lean Startup Lifecycle: Shadow the founder to observe how early-stage user testing directly influences onboarding optimization and a 90-day free trial user retention model.

Expected Responsibilities (Under Direct Mentorship)

  • Collaborate on competitive analysis of existing flashcard and spaced repetition applications to identify user friction points.
  • Assist in drafting user recruitment screeners and discussion guides for upcoming usability testing sessions.
  • Help moderate remote or hybrid user research sessions with students and educators to evaluate app navigation and clarity.
  • Synthesize qualitative data from testing sessions to help create user persona profiles and empathy maps.
  • Present research findings and evidence-based recommendations to the founder to support UX design iterations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Academic Enrollment: Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college or university (e.g., NJIT, Rutgers, Montclair State) actively enrolled in a course to receive academic credit for this internship.
  • Major: Pursuing a degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Science, Psychology, Interaction Design, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Availability: Able to commit to approximately 10–15 hours per week, with a schedule that flexibly accommodates your coursework and exams.
  • Legal: Must sign an Unpaid Internship Agreement prior to the start date confirming the educational nature of the role.

Specific Skills Desired

  • Research Tools: Foundational familiarity with user testing tools, survey platforms (Google Forms, Typeform), or digital whiteboards (Miro, FigJam).
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to spot patterns in qualitative feedback and organize messy user data into logical, concise summaries.
  • Empathy & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to actively listen to users and communicate insights clearly.
  • Mindset: Deeply curious about cognitive learning techniques (like active recall and Spaced Repetition Systems) and eager to explore user behavior within EdTech.
