Winnebago Mental Health Institute  (WMHI), located near Oshkosh WI, is looking to hire full-time Custodian position. WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

  • The full-time positions will work primarily weekdays (Monday - Friday) from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. 
  • This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies.

This position will be required to work once every 16th weekend and may require some holidays, and possible overtime, depending on the needs of the facility. 

A $3000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; must stay with WMHI in the position until completing probation.  Bonus will be split, $1500 upon hire and $1500 after completing probation.

Position Summary

 

As a Custodian, you are responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks at WMHI. Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Operating automatic cleaning equipment, such as automatic scrubbers, sweepers, and wall washers, wet/dry vacuums, and carpet cleaning equipment.
  • Stripping and sealing floors.
  • Cleaning toilets showers and furniture.
  • Shoveling snow.
  • Replacing light bulbs.

Salary Information

 

The starting pay is $16.67 per hour (approximately $34,600 per year) or minimum at time of appointment, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

This position is eligible for a night differential of $0.80 for hours worked between 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, and a weekend differential of $0.80 for hours worked between midnight Friday to midnight Sunday. 

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/08.

This position requires the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

All appointees will be required to complete a pre-employment health assessment including a TB screen prior to their start date.

Qualifications

 

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early morning or early evenings, and overtime as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting procedures.
  • Ability to use cleaning products and follow appropriate safety/sanitizing procedures including the use of protective equipment and chemical agents.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and use problem solving processes.

Well-qualified candidates will also have one or both of the following:

  • Previous experience with custodial or housekeeping work.
  • Experience using basic hand tools (e.g. drill, screwdriver, etc.) and custodial equipment (e.g. floor scrubber, Kaivac, carpet cleaner, etc.).
