Position Qualifications & Requirements:
- Experience with or personal interest in organic farming/gardening practices
- Basic writing and record keeping skills, basic computer skills, ability to communicate effectively by email
- Willing attitude: eager to learn, able to research to increase skill sets.
- Basic knowledge of working with garden hand tools (shovel, pick, hoe, rake, etc.)
- Knowledge of basic safety protocols for hand tools and farm equipment.
- Must be physically able to complete tasks effectively, including but not limited to the ability to:
- handle working outside in the elements and all seasons in Georgia
- stand, kneel, squat for extended periods of time
- lift 40 pounds: must understand basic body mechanics to work smart and avoid injury
- Relevant education in areas including but not limited to Conservation, Horticulture, Greenhouse Operations, Organic Farming, Ecology, Forestry, Master Gardener Program, Environmental Studies is a plus.
Responsibilities:
Nursery Crew team members work as needed on daily tasks that will include but are not limited to: Media mixing, seeding trays, up-potting, sexual and asexual plant propagation, winterizing, watering, sanitation, weed identification and control, pest ID and control, installation of plants/garden bed design, irrigation maintenance, loading and unloading plant orders, debris/compost management, seed collection and processing, and record keeping.
