Metallurgical Lab Supervisor

Wyman-Gordon, located in Worcester, MA, provides Isothermal Forgings for military and commercial turbine applications using nickel based and titanium alloys.  Full Heat Treating, Machining and Testing on site. This growing, $200 million profit center is part of a highly successful, multi-billion diversified manufacturer. Precision Castparts Corporation (PCC).

Metallurgical Lab Supervisor

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Entry level Metallurgist responsible for the efficient operation of the metal lab. This includes a deep understanding of lab processes and product, metallurgical specifications and customer requirements. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Support optimization of our written procedures, systems, quality documents and operations to effectively improve overall efficiency of the laboratory
  • Manage technical personnel within the metallurgical laboratory; supervise, coach, manage and grow our technical professional and staff.
  • Track and drive to completion all testing requirements across multiple sources/vendors to drive quality standards and customer delivery.
  • Identify and implement departmental improvements to increase laboratory process efficiencies and throughput while maintaining high quality standards
  • Operate lab equipment as needed
  • Auditing of Wyman-Gordon for compliance
  • Function as the Lab Management Representative as required by AS9100
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with AS9100 and all customer requirements.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS minimum in a technical/engineering field (Materials, Metallurgy, Chemical)
  • 0-7 years’ experience in Materials/Lab functions
  • Proven experience in statistical analysis 
  • Manufacturing and/or aerospace experience highly preferred. 

 

SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of Quality based computer systems 
  • Good PC skills with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong familiarity with compliance (AS9100, NADCAP)
