Accounting & Payroll Intern

What exactly would I do?

As the Accounting & Payroll Intern, you will embody the Symphony’s core values of inclusion, passion, quality, innovation and welcoming. Working closely with the Finance & HR team, you will support day-to-day accounting and payroll operations including accounts payable and receivable processing, coding transactions, reconciliations, payroll documentation, vendor maintenance, and financial recordkeeping. You may also assist with audit preparation, process improvements, and systems support while gaining exposure to nonprofit accounting principles and internal controls.

What qualifications and skills do I need?

Current undergraduate or graduate students pursuing accounting, finance, business, or a related field are encouraged to apply. Completion of at least one introductory accounting or financial management course and proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required. Interest in nonprofit or arts administration is preferred. Strong attention to detail, organization, analytical thinking, professionalism, and the ability to manage sensitive information confidentially are key to success.

What’s the compensation and benefits?

This internship provides hands-on experience in nonprofit financial operations and exposure to financial systems, accounting processes, and internal controls. Interns may work up to 20 hours per week during the internship term and will receive practical experience supporting a mission-driven arts organization. This position is primarily in person.
