Title: Materials Lab Technician
Location: Corning, NY
Duration: 12 Months
Interview Process: Initial call with manager, then 2nd round panel interview with team members. 2nd round would be onsite if candidate is local and via teams if candidate is not local.

Manager is open to candidates willing to relocate at their own expense. Preference given to local candidates.

Description:
Required skills/education: Bachelor's degree in materials science, chemistry, geology, ceramics, or a related technical field. Candidates must be comfortable with instrumentation, following experiment plans, material handling/processing.

Position Summary
The Lab Technician supports high temperature lab operations within Client’s Thermophysical Properties Labs. This role is responsible for executing day-to-day operations in a fast-paced environment, supporting both routine testing and complex research programs. The position works closely with scientists and engineers to ensure safe, reliable, and consistent operation of thermal treatment equipment across multiple lab spaces.

Key Responsibilities
Operate and monitor high temperature furnaces used for thermal treatments
Prepare samples and fixtures according to established procedures and experimental requirements
Execute test runs, track schedules, and ensure timely setup of equipment to support experimental plans
Perform basic equipment checks, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting; escalate issues as needed
Follow all safety, PPE, and operating procedures when working with high temperature equipment and molten glass materials
Document work, record run conditions, and support data traceability in lab tracking systems
Coordinate closely with scientists, engineers, and technicians to prioritize workload and adjust schedules as needed
Support startup, development, and stabilization of additional lab equipment

Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in materials science, chemistry, geology, ceramics, or a related technical field
Experience working in a laboratory or manufacturing environment involving process equipment, thermal systems, or materials handling preferred
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow and document procedures precisely
Comfort working independently in a hands‑on, execution‑focused role
Willingness to work around high‑temperature equipment and comply with strict safety requirements

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with high‑temperature furnaces, heat treatment, ceramics, or glass processing
Familiarity with laboratory documentation, test tracking, or LIMS systems
Experience supporting fast-paced research or development labs with variable and fast changing priorities
Ability to work effectively with scientists and engineers in a collaborative environment
