Roll Thread Operator

Position Summary

Under direct supervision, team members can operate a roll thread machine after set-up has been completed by others. Responsible for maintaining prescribed quality of work. Responsible for completing operator setup verification, in-process inspection, and attribute inspection. Knowledgeable in the use of L1/L2 ring gages and calipers. Must become familiar with all IS09001/IS016949 procedures relating to this operation. Responsible for assigned preventative maintenance. Must maintain machine oil levels. Able to make minor adjustments. Team member is also responsible for suggesting continuous improvement and cost savings opportunities. Threading operators are responsible for the conformity of product requirements for the parts that they produce. Threading operators have the authority to stop production if a quality problem is found.

Prerequisites

  • Safety training including training in the importance of machine guarding and safety equipment and lift truck
  • Knowledge of the lock out/tag out procedure
  • Knowledge and application of plant and environmental safety concepts
  • Proper lifting techniques
  • Orientation.

Primary Functions/Responsibilities

  • Maintains work area and machine in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Operates machine and maintains quality after a setup by others.
  • Becomes familiar with all guarding and safety features of the machine. Safely operates the machine. Notify experienced operator, supervisor, or maintenance technician of any problems.
  • Becomes familiar with the proper use and maintenance of gages used in this operation.
  • Completes training and understands that all inspections including SPC charting and in-process inspection sheets on time, every time.
  • Performs assigned preventive maintenance on roll thread machine.
  • Maintains machine lubrication system, including oil level and cleaning dies at proper intervals.
  • Is familiar with and performs minor daily maintenance
  • Meets engineering standards for quality, productivity, and tool usage
  • Properly competes PLEX requirements
  • Assists with setups
  • Attempts are common troubleshooting and machine adjustments.
  • Contacts experienced operator when assistance is needed. Knows when to seek assistance and who to contact
  • Become familiar with the problem-solving process.
  • Is able to read blueprints required to complete in process inspection
  • Is trained with and becomes familiar with ISO 9001/IATF 16949/ISO 14001 procedures related to roll threading, including the roll threading operation procedure.
  • Operate forklift and possess a forklift license.
  • Becomes familiar with cost relative to scrap and tooling
  • Perform other duties and assignments as requested by Threading Supervisor
  • Is aware of when die changes are needed.
  • ISO 14001 work instruction and general review training include annual refresher training
  • Spill prevention training
  • Has completed ISO 9001/IATF 16949/ ISO 14001 document training
  • Understands our Environmental Policy, our significant environmental aspects, their contribution to our Environmental Management System and the implications of not conforming to the Environmental Management System.
  • Understands our Quality Policy, our relevant quality objectives, their contribution to the effectiveness of our Quality Management System and the implications of not conforming to our Quality Management System.

 

Education/ Work Experience required

High school degree or GED equivalent

Mechanical aptitude

 

Physical Requirements

Lifting and transferring of variety of materials weighing up to 40lbs.
