Housing Choice Voucher Rental Subsidy Impact Survey Summer Intern

The Rental Housing Division administers various rental subsidy programs that provide affordable rental housing, mainly the Federal Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, which includes special allocations for groups such as disabled and homeless veterans, as well as the family self-sufficiency program, portability program, fostering youth initiatives vouchers, and project-based vouchers. 

The goal for this internship is to assess the potential impact of federal reductions to the Housing Choice Voucher program. 

 

Duties may include;

  • Create and implement an impact survey.
  • Gather and analyze related statistics and survey findings.
  • Prepare a final report which includes background, findings, and recommendations.

Schedule & Hours:

Candidates will work 40 hours per week with flexibility to the students schedule. The internship is full‑time at 40 hours per week for 10 weeks. During the initial weeks, the intern will work 40 hours per week on-site to receive training, learn department systems, and support initial project planning. Following this period, the schedule will transition to 10–15 hours per week on‑site, with the remaining hours completed remotely. The applicant is responsible to provide their own housing and transportation to and from work during the internship.

 

Expected Duration:

Summer 2026 - 10 weeks

 

Required Education:  

Candidates pursuing a degree, preferably graduate level, in housing studies, public administration, public policy, sociology, or a related social science field.

  • Eligibility: Must be a currently enrolled student (in an associate's, bachelor's, master's degree or PhD program) and be in good academic standing as determined by the school, college, or university.

 

Ideal Candidate / Preferences:

  • Research methods coursework desired.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and narrative writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently; confident interpersonal skills.
  • Community-oriented.
  • Knowledge of local/state/federal government regulations is ideal.
