Environmental Health Aide
The Eau Claire City-County Health Department (ECCCHD) has an opportunity available for an aspiring professional to gain valuable work experience! The focus of this position will include collecting and managing data for the ECCCHD housing program with mobile- and web-based GIS applications. There will be lots of time completing field work, as well as limited office responsibilities. This is a short-term employment opportunity with an expected schedule consisting of 32-40 hours per week from June through July. There may be some flexibility on work schedule, including the number of days and hours per week.
With your supervisor’s support and coordination, your primary duties may include:
•Working independently as part of an interconnected team to conduct exterior surveys of housing units in the City of Eau Claire.
•Entering and maintaining electronic survey reports for each housing unit visited using GIS software.
•Assisting with the creation of maps using pertinent geospatial data.
•Performing data collection, research, analysis, and interpretation related to environmental health within the community.
•Performing other duties that build programs and services that will benefit the community.
Minimum qualifications for eligibility include the items listed under the Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities section on the next page and:
•High school graduate or GED equivalent.
•Two years of academic training in an accredited technical college or university is preferred.
•A valid driver’s license, current or willingness to obtain sufficient automotive insurance and reliable transportation.
This Environmental Health Aide position will have a starting pay of $15.44/hour. Employment will begin as soon as possible and will extend through July 31st, 2026.

6.Knowledge of ArcGIS software and associated applications.
7.Communication Skills:
•Requires the ability to communicate with individuals to exchange basic information and situation status, to consult on technical issues, and to address concerns and issues involving environmental and public
health issues.
•Requires the skills and abilities of conflict resolution and effective listening with handling irate people and stressful situations.
•Requires the ability to effectively communicate the level of risk, in a given situation, based on the scientific and technical expertise.

•Ability to professionally handle confidential information.
•Public sensitivity for working with
citizens and businesses affected by controversial environmental issues.
•Investigates confidential complaints and may assist with enforcement cases.
Additional Expectations:
1.Environmental Health Aides are expected to communicate with program personnel on a daily basis to determine the appropriate sampling schedule and to provide sufficient notice of any requested changes to work or sampling schedules.
2.Environmental Health Aides must represent the Health Department in an appropriate manner at all times (e.g. utilize appropriate language in communication and dress appropriately for the respective work setting).
