Performing Arts Administrative Intern

Job Synopsis:

Chicago Human Rhythm Project is the nation’s largest and only year-round presenter of American tap dance and contemporary percussive arts. We are seeking interns to assist us with the day-to-day operations of the Mayfair Arts Center--our arts incubator in Calumet Heights, Chicago, along with production management and advanced planning for our upcoming summer festival.

 

Job Identification:

Position:  Performing Arts Administrative Intern - In-Person position

Reports To:  Founding Director

Company Status:  Nonprofit Organization – Performing Arts & Arts Education

Compensation:  $1,500 - $3,500 stipend/semester + Academic credit may be arranged upon request.

Hours:  16-32 hours/week, plus additional hours during programs  

Start / End Dates:  Early June 2026 – Third week of August 2026

Working Conditions:  In-person at the Mayfair Arts Center

Location:  Chicago, IL (Calumet Heights)

Internship Information:

This internship is best-suited for candidates that are looking for a high level of responsibility and independence. Interns must be adept at communication and be able to follow through independently on important and detailed projects.  This is an excellent opportunity to “own” several large-scale projects and make significant contributions while learning about the operations of a performing arts / arts education organization.

PROGRAM: Mayfair Arts Center (Ongoing)

A project of Chicago Human Rhythm Project, the Mayfair Arts Center (MAC) is a collaborative effort to foster community growth through rhythmic expression. We aim to offer diverse, high-quality dance and movement classes to the general public while centralizing the education programs, rehearsal space and administrative offices of several core groups. The following responsibilities are ongoing throughout the internship: 

  • advanced planning for Rhythm World 36 (CHRP's 36th annual festival) and future planning for events, 
  • task based marketing and administrative assistance, 
  • corresponding with artists and partner organizations,
  • running registration for classes at the MAC. 
  • *Additional opportunity to help run the CHRP Instagram account for social media savvy applicants.

PROGRAM: Rhythm World Summer Festival (August 4th - 9th, 2026)

CHRP’s annual summer festival of tap is the world’s oldest, largest, and most comprehensive tap and percussive dance festival, and we will be celebrating CHRP's 36th year of producing this festival this summer. The Rhythm World responsibilities are event-specific, and may include: 

  • advanced planning assistance, 
  • marketing assistance, 
  • corresponding with guest artists, 
  • corresponding with other organizations, 
  • making travel and hotel arrangements for artists,
  • inputting registration data,
  • Day-of production assistance.

 

Qualifications:

Required: 

Applicants must be a College Junior, Senior, or in the process of applying to be/currently a graduate student.

Knowledge of Google Workspace is essential (Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, Calendar).

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Preferred:

Arts administration, arts management, communications, marketing, nonprofit management, or performing arts majors preferred.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, social media savvy, and graphic design is a plus.

Ability to multi-task, Attention to detail, and Sense of humor is also a plus.
