STEM Instructor / Tutor (Part-Time)
Calculus Roundtable- non-profit provider of STEM programs and high impact tutoring
Calculus Roundtable (CR) is seeking creative, knowledgeable, and mission-driven part-time STEM Instructors and Tutors to support K–12 students across San Francisco. We design fun, rigorous, and engaging math and science learning experiences that inspire students to pursue advanced coursework and future STEM careers.
All instructors receive training in CR’s curriculum, pedagogy, and equity-centered instructional approach.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality math and/or science instruction and tutoring (in-person and/or virtual)
- Support students in developing strong study habits and problem-solving strategies
- Communicate consistently with students, families, and the Program Manager
- Learn and apply Calculus Roundtable’s instructional methods and equity-centered pedagogy
- Effectively manage classroom or virtual learning environments
- Participate in required trainings and team meetings
- Perform other duties aligned with the role of a professional STEM Instructor/Tutor
Schedule & Hours
Positions are part-time, non-benefited, and scheduled based on school needs and instructor availability. We can usually find you a spot in one or more programs that fit in with your schedule! We are seeking individuals with availability for the following schools and locations that have their own transportation:
• San Francisco - Balboa High School and Mission Bay Elementary, morning and afternoon
• East Bay – Camp Achieve Richmond, CA, afternoons
• San Jose Public Library – Hillview and other branches, afternoons
Pay: Starting at $22/hour
Qualifications: Applicants should meet one of the following:
- Current or recently graduated college student studying science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
- Professional from a relevant STEM field seeking a career transition
- California-certified Middle School or High School Math teacher
Preferred:
- Prior tutoring or teaching experience
- Experience working in educational or youth-serving settings
Candidates must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, families, and staff from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with varied academic preparation and learning needs.

All CR instructors are enrolled in the Calculus Roundtable Diversity in STEM Fellowship, which provides mentorship and professional development for college students and recent graduates.

- Training in teaching, STEM, and professional skills
- Optional pairing with a mentor in a related STEM field
- Resume support, references, and industry connections
- Coaching to maximize the value of mentorship and early-career experiences
Instructors are matched with classes and tutoring assignments aligned with their academic background and career interests and are encouraged to share their STEM pathways with students as part of CR’s role-model-based program design.
