Job Overview
We are seeking an organized, empathetic, and forward-thinking intern for Editorial & Publication Lead. This unique remote, international internship is ideal for students in Journalism, Health Communication, Technical Writing, or English who want to build a diverse professional portfolio.
In this role, you will move beyond basic writing to gain management-level experience. You will collaborate directly with FND Hope’s Senior Leadership to plan content strategy, establish structured editorial timelines, and manage a decentralized committee of volunteer writers and graphic designers. This role sets the voice of our organization with our patient and medical professional communities to a global community.
Activities
- Strategic Planning: Partner with FND Hope Senior Leadership to align the quarterly digital magazine themes and monthly email newsletters with organizational campaigns and international advocacy milestones.
- Editorial Calendar & Process Management: Establish, track, and maintain a structured production schedule and deadline system for all upcoming publications and coordinate improvements in content aggregation, template management and brand consistency across email marketing, graphic design, and magazine layout.
- Content Committee Leadership: Act as the primary point of contact for a volunteer committee; assign articles to writers, send deadline reminders, and coordinate text handoffs to layout/design volunteers.
- Editing & Quality Control: Proofread, edit, and refine all submitted pieces to ensure high quality, useful content that aligns with FND Hope’s brand voice.
- Operational Continuity: Maintain highly responsive communication with leadership and volunteers. At the close of your term, assist leadership in a smooth transition by compiling brief offboarding notes for the incoming replacement.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a university program in Journalism, Communications, English, Public Relations, Public Health, or a related field. Special consideration given to candidates in specialized Health/Science Communication tracks.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities, with a knack for keeping a team accountable to deadlines while also understanding the flexibility needed for a volunteer-run team by people dealing with health conditions. .
- Highly reliable and responsive.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets).
- Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp), graphic design (Canva) and/or magazine publishing with Adobe suite is a plus.
- Editing, copy-refining, and proofreading skills.
- Enthusiasm for FND Hope’s mission and vision.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
Specifications
Job hours are flexible. You likely will be coordinating across multiple time zones, so some flexibility is needed.
