Religious Education Teacher

Wildflower Church, a Unitarian Universalist liberal religious community in South Austin, is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic part time teacher to work with our children’s Religious Education Program. The ideal candidate is loving, a team player, embraces diversity, and aligns with our mission to spread love, justice and joy. Teaching experience is preferred but may be substituted with childcare experience and enthusiasm. Diverse applicants encouraged to apply.

Overview:   Teaches Religious Education class Sunday mornings for a program that offers a meaningful religious education that makes a positive difference in children’s and youth’s lives (pre-K - 8th grade).  

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Teach a prepared lesson plan to a small Pre-K-8th grade multi-age religious education class

Teach on the first, third, and fourth Sundays each month.

Be present at the visitor table for 15 minutes prior to beginning of worship to welcome families and orient new visiting families.

Keep up with correspondence with a supervisor through email/meetings.

Obtain and maintain registrations and file registration forms for children.

Keep Sunday class attendance and registration up to date on Breeze software.

Ensure our children’s classes abide by Wildflower’s Child Safety Policy at all times.

Job Type: Part Time

Hours: Sundays 11:30am – 1:30 pm, excluding the second and fifth Sunday of the month.

Additional hours would include communications, meetings and record keeping duties. 

This position averages 3- 4 hours per week.

Starts: June 2026. Review of applications will begin May 20 and will continue until the position is filled.

Pay rate: $25/hr


Reporting Structure:  Religious Education employees report directly to the Board of Trustees. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Teaching/childcare experience

Commitment to actively supporting a Children’s Youth and Religious Education program that encourages equity and inclusion through its learning experiences.

Willingness to expand your knowledge of Unitarian Universalist Shared Values through participation in compensated orientation and safety trainings.

Minimum age of 21 due to organization’s Child Safety Policy.
