Sailing Counselor, Vermont Summer Camp
Sailing Counselor at Residential Summer Camp
Seasonal Job Opportunity in Fairlee, VT
Aloha Camp is a summer residential program for girls and nonbinary youth ages 12–16 located in Fairlee, Vermont. Our mission is to inspire people of all ages to learn, explore, grow, and become their best selves. Aloha is a technology-free campus, creating space for campers and staff to build meaningful relationships, develop confidence, and cultivate a love and appreciation for the outdoors.
As a Sailing Counselor with Aloha Camp, you’ll play a dynamic, full-time role in camp life - mentoring campers, teaching sailing skills, and helping lead in a dynamic, fun community.
This position blends three core roles:
Unit Counselor
You’ll live in a platform tent with 3–6 campers and be part of a larger unit community. Your primary focus is building strong, supportive relationships with your “tent family,” while also connecting with the wider unit. You’ll guide campers through daily routines, help them grow socially, and create a positive, inclusive living environment.
Sailing Department Counselor
For roughly four hours each day, you’ll lead and support sailing programming. This includes:
- Teaching foundational to advanced sailing skills
- Leading engaging, skill-building sessions and games
- Supporting camper progression and confidence on the water
- Preparing campers for regattas
- Teaching safety protocols, gear use, navigation, and knots
You’ll work closely with department leadership and receive training and support throughout the summer.
Training (including wilderness first aid and lifeguarding) is provided before camp at no cost.
General Counselor
Beyond structured roles, you’ll be an active member of the camp community from morning to evening - sharing meals, participating in assemblies, leading games, and creating meaningful, often spontaneous moments with campers. You may also join assemblies, special events, and other camp-wide activities.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Organized, dependable, and team-oriented
- Enthusiastic about working with children and in the outdoors
- Committed to camper safety and well-being
- Comfortable in a rustic residential camp setting
Position Details
- Live and work on-site for ~ 9 weeks (including training and wrap-up)
- Room, board, and competitive salary included
- Training provided (including wilderness first aid and lifegurding)
