Summer School Librarian
F.D. Roosevelt High School is seeking a resourceful and tech-savvy Librarian to support our 2026 Summer School Program. The library serves as the central hub for research, digital literacy, and academic support during our intensive summer term. This is a temporary, anticipated vacancy designed to help students recover credits or accelerate their learning in a supportive environment.
Tentative Assignment: F.D. Roosevelt High School; July 6th – August 13th
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am-12:00pm
Key Responsibilities
- Assist students and faculty in navigating digital databases, physical collections, and academic resources to support summer coursework and credit recovery projects.
- Provide "just-in-time" instruction on evaluating sources, avoiding plagiarism, and utilizing educational technology.
- Manage the circulation of textbooks, e-readers, and supplemental materials specifically required for summer school curricula (including Math, Health, and English).
- Maintain a quiet, productive, and welcoming atmosphere for students requiring a space for independent study or testing.
- Troubleshoot basic hardware and software issues for students using school-issued devices within the library.
Qualifications
- Certification: Valid New York State School Media Specialist (Library Science) certification.
- Education: Master’s degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) or equivalent.
- Experience: Previous experience in a high school library setting is preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency with Library Management Systems (LMS) and a strong understanding of modern research databases and AI literacy tools.
