Summer School Social Studies Teacher
F.D. Roosevelt High School, part of the Hyde Park Central School District, is seeking a dynamic and dedicated High School Social Studies Teacher to join our team for the 2026 Summer School Program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching history as a living narrative to help students understand their role in a global society, and be committed to creating an inclusive, engaging, and supportive classroom environment.

Tentative Assignment: F.D. Roosevelt High School; July 6th - August 13th.
Work Week: Monday - Thursday, 7:30am-12:00pm
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum & Instruction: Develop and deliver engaging lessons in subjects such as Global History & Geography, U.S. History & Government, Participation in Government, and Economics.
- Critical Inquiry: Foster an environment where students analyze primary sources, debate complex issues, and develop evidence-based arguments.
- Inclusive Pedagogy: Implement culturally responsive teaching practices that reflect the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our student body.
- Assessment: Utilize both formative and summative assessments to track student progress and pivot instructional strategies to meet individual needs.
- Collaboration: Participate in Departmental Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to align curriculum with New York State Social Studies Frameworks and K-12 goals.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Certification: Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Social Studies 7-12.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with high school students
Preferred:
- A "civic-minded" approach—experience leading extracurriculars like Mock Trial, Model UN, or Student Government is a major plus.
- Familiarity with digital learning platforms and integrating technology into instruction
- Familiarity with restorative practices, culturally responsive pedagogy, and evidence-based instructional strategies.
