PennDOT Construction Inspector - TCI-3
Measures distances to verify accuracy of dimensions of structural installations and layouts. Verifies levels, alignment, and elevations of installation. Observers work in progress to ensure that procedures are followed, and materials used conform to specifications. Discusses deviations from specified construction procedures to ensure compliance with regulations. Records quantities of materials received or used during construction process. Maintains daily logs on construction and inspection activities and prepares progress reports. May compute estimates of work completed and approve payment for contractors. Prepares sketches of construction installations that deviate from blueprints and report all changes for master set of blueprints
Must meet one of the following qualifications:
Option 1
· Minimum of 1 year of PennDOT experience as a TCI Level 2 or higher.
· Must possess all of the following certifications:
o PennDOT Concrete Technician
o NECEPT Field Technician
o NICET Level II (or higher) in Highway Construction
Option 2
· Currently qualified at a higher classification or
· Hold NICET Level III (or higher) certification in Highway Construction
Option 3
. Minimum of 4 years of transportation, highway, or bridge construction inspection experience.
· Must possess all of the following certifications:
o PennDOT Concrete Technician
o NECEPT Field Technician
o NICET Level II (or higher) in Highway Construction
Option 4
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Foreman, Superintendent, or higher-level role in transportation, highway, or bridge construction.
· Successful completion of the 12 web-based TCI training modules.
Option 5
· Hold an active Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification through the Construction Management Association of America.
Option 6
· Hold an active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
o A PE license may be substituted for all experience and certification requirements.
Education Substitutions
· Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management may substitute for 4 years of experience.
· Associate degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management may substitute for 2 years of experience.
