Fall 2026 A.B.L.E. Program Support Intern

Position: A.B.L.E. Program Support Intern 

Location: Fully Onsite at Isaiah House, Washington, DC 20001 

Duration: Fall 

Hours: Approximately 20 Hours per week; 8 am – 1:00 pm Monday – Friday. The number of hours weekly can be adjusted based on school schedule. 

Reports to: Program Coordinator 

Compensation: Unpaid. Academic credit may be available depending on school policies. 

About SOME: SOME (So Others Might Eat) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty in Washington, D.C. We provide a range of services, including food, housing, healthcare, substance use treatment, and job training to help people transform their lives and achieve self-sufficiency. Interns play a key role in helping us fulfill our mission. 

Position Overview: SOME (So Others Might Eat) is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic A.B.L.E. Intern to join our team. The A.B.L.E. Program — Activate, Believe, Learn, Elevate — is committed to helping individuals unlock their full potential through structured support, meaningful engagement, and personal growth. The program fosters a positive, empowering environment that encourages participants to build confidence, gain skills, and elevate their daily lives. The A.B.L.E. Intern provides direct support to daily programming at Isaiah House. Interns assist with group and one-on-one sessions, prepare and serve snacks, help with activities, and ensure the environment remains clean and welcoming. This role is ideal for students or early professionals interested in human services, education, psychology, or community support. 

Key Responsibilities 

Facilitate Group Sessions: Lead or assist with group activities focused on social skills, creativity, self-expression, and personal development. 

Provide One-on-One Support: Offer individualized encouragement and assistance aligned with participant goals. 

Prepare Snacks: Help prepare and distribute light snacks to participants. 

Support Daily Activities: Assist with planning and running activities such as arts & crafts, life skills training, recreational games, or exercises. 

Maintain Clean Environment: Perform basic cleaning tasks to ensure a safe, welcoming space (e.g., wiping tables, organizing supplies, sanitizing high-touch areas, sweeping, mopping, and restrooms) 

Build Positive Relationships: Interact respectfully and supportively with all participants to foster trust and encouragement. 

Collaborate with Staff: Communicate regularly with program staff to ensure smooth delivery of services. 

Other Duties as Assigned: Remain flexible and willing to step in where needed.
