92NY Camps: Activity Instructor

92NY Camps: Activity Instructor Position  

The Camp Activity Instructor is responsible for the planning, leading, and implementing of age-appropriate instruction for their specified activity. They will be responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants that attend their specialty program. The incumbent will provide high quality educational and recreational experiences for participants. We are seeking to hire instructors in the following areas: Sports, Arts &Crafts, Photography, Filmmaking, Cooking, Dance, Music, Adventure Course, Jewish Culture, Gardening, Nature.  

Camp runs from Monday to Friday, from June 29 until August 14, 2026, from 8am to 5:45pm. There will be mandatory staff training in June.  

 

Essential Functions  

• Attend staff orientation sessions during June.  

• Daily supervision of campers, including meeting campers at camp pickup location (92nd Street Y, West Side, or Downtown Manhattan) and supervising campers while in transit to and from Camp.  

• Create and implement age-appropriate curricula for specialty activities (gardening, nature, crafts, cooking, etc.).  

• Lead and direct up to 6 group lessons each day at camp for groups of 15 to 18 campers ranging in age from 5 to 11; both typically developing campers and campers with special needs.  

• Provide support and assistance to campers while respecting their privacy and sense of self-worth so that they can meaningfully engage in your activity.  

• Assume responsibilities for the health, safety, and well-being of campers while they are present at your activity area.  

• Communicate regularly to Head Counselor, Unit Supervisor and Camp Director observations and concerns regarding the needs of individual campers, including any difficulties, where necessary.   

• Participate in Family Visiting Night. 

• Come prepared every day to fully participate in the Camp’s activities and be willing to help with responsibilities outside your activity area including special events (including Israel Day, Shabbat, Carnival, etc.) or inclement weather (rain or extreme heat).  

• Participate in staff orientation program.  

• Read and fully comply with the policies of Camp as set forth in the Staff Manual that you will be given during Orientation and always comply with its rules and regulations, including dress code and emergency procedures.  

• Exude enthusiasm for Camp life and activities and actively seek to incorporate the Camp’s values including compassion, kindness, leadership, courage, and mindfulness, into the learning objectives of your area. 

• Act as a role model for campers.   

• Ability to stand and walk for several hours, often outside during the summer season.  

• Ability to lift 25 lbs. 

• Staff Shirt (provided) and sneakers required while on duty.  

• Ability to communicate directly with camp office regarding application, pre-camp paperwork, and throughout summer. 

  

 

Education, Skills and Experience  

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.  

• Experience teaching specialty activity in a school, camp, or youth program environment. 

• Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities. 

• Ability to work as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks independently. 

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

Salary Range: $6,200 - $6,400    

The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.  

 

Camp Dates: Camp runs from Monday to Friday (8:00am-5:45pm) from June 29 through August 14; with a pre-camp orientation in June.
