Internship Program Statement

 

The Count Basie Center for the Arts is committed to supporting a diverse group of emerging entertainment, artistic, and non-profit professionals. The Basie Internship & Apprenticeship Program has been designed to foster the next generation of dynamic artistic and non-profit professionals through career development and experiential learning. This program is open to students and recent graduates. The Basie is committed to creating a program that will support our mission to inspire, educate and entertain while simultaneously providing interns with the experience they need to actualize their personal professional goals.

 

Job Description

 

Opportunities available for college and post-grad students

Communications Interns report to the Senior Vice President of Communications & Content Strategy and assist with public relations, media relations, communications, and storytelling initiatives across the organization. This internship offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced arts and entertainment environment, providing students with the opportunity to contribute to high-profile events, announcements, and community initiatives. Interns will gain exposure to message strategy, content development, program production, and communications efforts while working closely with internal teams, external partners, members of the media, and community stakeholders.

Time

1–3 days/week; max 20 hours per week

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in public relations, media, communications, journalism, marketing, or related field
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism in working with people inside and outside the organization
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Curiosity, creativity, and willingness to learn
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Experience or coursework in PR, communications, journalism, media, or related area required

Tasks/Duties will vary day-to-day, but may include the following

  • Compose initial drafts of press releases, media advisories, pitches, and other communications materials
  • Create targeted media lists and assist with media outreach
  • Conduct background research and assist with content development across communications platforms
  • Support event communications and media coordination for programs and special events
  • Attend meetings, events, and community programs as needed
  • Assist with tracking media coverage and compiling reports
  • Provide general administrative and communications support as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
