The State of Connecticut, Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), is recruiting for Lifeguards at State Parks across Connecticut.
Position Highlights
- Pay: $20.00 - $23.94/ hour. No benefits.
- DEEP will provide all training required to work as a lifeguard at the State Park beaches. Training time is paid!
- Duration: Memorial Day Weekend (May 23rd) through Labor Day (September 7th).
- Schedule: Lifeguards work daily shifts from 10AM - 6PM, five days a week. July 4th is mandatory. Weekends and other holidays are preferred.

Lifeguard Supervisor
- Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) years of paid lifeguard experience or previous lifeguard supervisory experience.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Lifeguard Supervisors assist the Park and Recreation Supervisor in managing the operation of the State Park Lifeguard Squad in their unit. Lifeguard Supervisor duties include running the daily lifeguard operations, including coordinating lifeguard coverage shifts, leading daily physical trainings, setting up and breaking down the beach, properly caring for and maintaining equipment, communicating issues to the Park Management, and conducting basic lifeguarding duties and implementing secondary duties as assigned.

Beach Director
- Minimum Qualifications: One year (1) of experience as a supervisor over lifeguards.
- Must be at least 20 years old.
- Beach Directors assist the Water Safety Coordinator in conducting all preseason and in-service trainings and must have valid waterfront/open water lifeguard, basic life support, and advanced first aid instructor certifications. Beach directors also conduct public education outreach including Junior lifeguarding, Water Safety skills demos and presentations. The Beach Directors may also be trained in Critical Incident Stress Management and function as members of the ICISF trained peer support team. The Beach Directors will fill basic lifeguard and lifeguard supervisor coverage gaps to keep beaches staffed and must maintain certifications in both American Red Cross waterfront lifeguarding and United States Lifesaving Association open water lifeguarding, BLS, and advanced first aid or EMT.

Salary Note
Lifeguard:
16 years old
Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain Certification in the following:
- life-saving from a national accredited organization (i.e., American Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis & Associates, etc.);
- cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for the professional rescuer;
- first aid.
$20.00-$23.94/hour
Lifeguard Supervisor:
18 years old
Two (2) years of paid lifeguard experience or previous lifeguard supervisory experience.
$21.00-$25.94/hour
Beach Director:
20 years old
One year (1) of experience as a supervisor over lifeguards.
$23.00-$25.94/hour
