News Editor Intern
Are you a news junkie with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for storytelling? We are looking for a motivated News Editor Intern to join our fast-paced newsroom this summer. This isn't a coffee-running gig, you’ll be in the trenches of digital journalism, helping us refine breaking news, craft engaging headlines, and ensure our content meets the highest standards of accuracy and integrity.
You’ll work closely with the publisher to help shape the daily news cycle, learning how to balance speed with precision in a modern media environment.
What You’ll Do
- Copy Editing: Review and edit daily articles for grammar, punctuation, style (AP Style), and tone.
- Fact-Checking: Verify names, dates, quotes, and statistics to maintain our commitment to accuracy.
- Headline Optimization: Draft punchy, SEO-friendly headlines and subheads that drive engagement without resorting to clickbait.
- Content Management: Upload and format stories in our CMS, ensuring all multimedia elements (images, videos, social embeds) are properly placed.
- News Monitoring: Keep a pulse on wire services and social media to help identify trending topics and breaking news leads.
- Collaboration: Participate in pitch meetings and provide constructive feedback to reporters on story structure and flow.
Who You Are
- A Wordsmith: You have a firm grasp of the English language and can spot a misplaced comma from a mile away.
- Current Student: Ideally a Junior, Senior, or recent graduate majoring in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
- Deadline-Driven: You thrive under pressure and understand that in news, timing is everything.
- Detail-Oriented: You don’t just read; you scrutinize. You understand that one small error can impact the credibility of an entire organization.
Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with Google Workspace, Wix.com and Hubspot is a plus.
