Digital Marketing Intern
About the Program
The Inclusive Business Navigators Program is a partnership between the City of Long Beach and Braven Agency designed to support equitable economic recovery for small businesses and nonprofits. The program focuses on businesses owned and nonprofits led by Black, Latinx, Cambodian, and/or Asian/Pacific Islander individuals, as well as those located in low-and-moderate-income areas. Through outreach, education, and free technical assistance, we help small business owners and nonprofit leaders grow and access available federal, state, county, and local financial resources.
Role Overview
We're looking for a creative, design-savvy intern to own the digital presence of the Inclusive Business Navigators Program. You'll design templates, write engaging copy, and run our email and social media outreach to keep small businesses informed and engaged. This is a great role for someone building a portfolio in social media management, email marketing, or content design.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and send a monthly email newsletter highlighting program services, workshops, and resources
- Plan, design, and post social media content across the program's channels
- Reach a target digital audience of 100+ businesses per month
- Create branded graphics, flyers, and short-form video content for outreach campaigns
- Promote upcoming workshops and events to drive sign-ups
- Track engagement metrics (open rates, click-throughs, follower growth, post performance)
- Build and maintain a content calendar in coordination with the program team
- Help collect and showcase business success stories
Who You Are
- A designer at heart: You can build clean, on-brand templates and have a good eye for layout, color, and typography
- Experienced with the tools: Comfortable in Canva, CapCut, and Mailchimp (or similar email platforms)
- A strong writer: You can write short, clear, engaging copy for social posts and emails
- Social-media native: You understand how Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok work and what makes content perform
- Career-focused: You want to break into social media management, content creation, email marketing, or digital marketing
- Detail-oriented: You catch typos, broken links, and off-brand visuals before they go out
Nice to Have
- A portfolio of past design work, social content, or email campaigns (school projects count!)
- Experience with basic photo and video editing
- Bilingual content creation skills (Spanish, Khmer, Tagalog, or other languages)
- Familiarity with analytics tools like Meta Business Suite or Mailchimp reporting
What You'll Gain
- A real portfolio of published designs, campaigns, and analytics results
- Hands-on experience running outreach for a city-backed program
- Mentorship from Braven Agency and exposure to City of Long Beach communications work
- Skills in campaign measurement, content strategy, and brand consistency
Position Details
- Hours: 10–20 hours per week
- Schedule: Hybrid — 2 days in office, 3 days remote
- Reports to: Braven Agency Program Lead
- Partner: City of Long Beach
