Camp Read is home to the Greater Hudson Valley Council's Scouting America summer resident camp. It is a 1000 acre camping facility located deep in the woods of the Adirondack Mountains in Brant Lake, New York. For six and a half weeks in the summer, our trained staff run a high quality, energetic, week-long camping experience for Scouting units and individuals. HIRING INFORMATION
We're hiring an Arts and Hobbies Instructor to safely run our Arts and Hobbies Program. This includes woodcarving, basketry, photography, painting and MORE. The Arts and Hobbies Director must possess sound, mature judgment and personal integrity with a strong commitment to working with youth.
Required Staff Training Week: June 28th - July 4th
Camp Season: July 5th - August 8th
Closing Week: August 9th - 12th
Qualifications
- Minimum age is 18. If hired, must register as a member of the Scouting America and pass a criminal background check
- Full-season availability
- Some outdoor camping experience
- Enjoy working outside
- Have a passion for working with youth
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with campers, leaders, staff, and visitors.
General Responsibilities of Archery Instructor
- Every staff member helps maintain a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every camper feels like they belong.
- Instruct and guide campers in a variety of Arts and Hobbies activities.
- Maintain the Arts and Hobbies area.
- Repair, care, and cleaning of equipment and maintenance of current inventories.
- Collecting/preparing paperwork as needed in relation to the Merit Badges.
- Assisting youth and unit leaders in recognizing the archery program possibilities available both in and out of camp.
- During the end of the summer camping season, complete a written close-out report of the Archery program that should include; an inventory of all equipment, including equipment condition and recommendations for next year’s supplies. The report will be submitted to the Shooting Sports Director before leaving the camp property.

Compensation:
- Pay ranges from $400/week up to $500/week depending on experience.
- There is a $200 bonus for working the full 6.5 weeks.
- Room & Board is included at no cost to staff.
