Patent Search Analyst

We are seeking several high-caliber senior Biomedical Engineering Specialists.

We are also currently accepting applications for candidates seeking a Full-Time position for a standard career track, as well as a part-time, remote consulting role for an experienced professional who possesses a deep technical command of medical devices and a proven track record in intellectual property research.

Candidate Profile & Requirements

As a Patent Search Analyst, you will go beyond simple data retrieval; you will interpret the trajectory of medical innovation. You will be tasked with deconstructing complex device architectures to conduct Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) searches or patent validity assessments of the strength of patent claims, as well as detailed landscape investigations and analysis, all to guide clients navigating a complex IP landscape. In addition, you will support high stakes invalidity matters.

We are looking for a specialist with the ability to quickly come up to speed on specific cases/technologies and "see through the noise" to identify critical references that others miss.

Academic & Professional Background 

  • Advanced degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of two years of direct work experience in the medical device industry and 1 year of IP experience.
  • Domain Expertise: Demonstrated technical depth in at least two of the following:
    • Cardiovascular Interventions & Structural Heart
    • Surgical Robotics & Navigational Systems
    • Orthopedics & Biomechanics
    • Medical Imaging (MRI, CT, Ultrasound AI)
    • Wearable Diagnostics & Digital Health


IP & Analytical Rigor 

  • Search Proficiency: Proven experience conducting Validity/Invalidity and FTO searches with a focus on accuracy and exhaustive methodology.
  • Deconstruction Skills: The ability to deconstruct complex medical device architectures into core technological features for precise mapping.
  • Synthesis: Exceptional ability to translate dense technical and legal data into actionable competitive intelligence.
  • Opportunity Analysis: Experience identifying emerging technical directions and "opportunity spaces" within the medical device field to support client decision making.

  • Efficiency: Ability to thrive in a high-pace, deadline-driven environment focused on client success.
  • Demonstrated ability to come up to speed quickly, and perform at a high level
  • Communication: Strong clarity in technical writing and the ability to articulate complex findings to both technical and legal stakeholders.

Compensation will reflect the candidate’s IP experience, and relevant Med Device knowledge, and comparable local salaries: Salary range from: $35/hr to $50 / per hour for U.S. based candidates
