BASIC JOB FUNCTION
Perform a variety of tasks involved in the service of food and beverages for Catering and Hancher events including setup, service, and clean-up of bars and concession areas.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for set-up, service, and clean-up of bar and set-up of cash drawer.
- Accept payment for beverage items, registers and deposits funds in cash register.
- Accepts charges in accordance with established procedures.
- Reconcile charge slips according to established procedure.
- Open and close register at appropriate times.
- Check identification for age before making sales transactions.
- Prepare and serve beverages according to standard procedure and quantity.
- Respond to inquiries from customers in a positive manner.
- Fulfill customer orders for beverages.
- Record information used by supervisors for billing and inventory control.
- Return equipment, bars, and beverage items to proper location following catered event.
- Responsible for checking out keys to open bar and liquor storage units. Return keys at close of shift or after securing area.
- Maintain cleanliness of service area and equipment.
- Assist in on-the-job training of student employees.
- Responsible for security of alcohol during events.
- Record any changes in liquor orders.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a student of the University of Iowa during the academic year.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to move up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work evenings, early mornings, and weekends and be flexible in scheduling from week to week.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) skills and be positive and respectful in working with a diverse population.
- Demonstrated commitment to GREAT customer service.
