Interventionist Teacher

Job Title: Certified Teacher - Interventionist

Location: Craig Middle School

Reports to: Designated Principal

Date of Availability: August 2026
 

Salary: Placement on the Certified salary schedule is commensurate with education and teaching experience. Base Salary starts at $51,000.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 The Interventionist provides targeted academic support to students requiring additional instruction beyond Tier I core classroom learning. This position supports the school’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) by delivering research-based interventions, monitoring student progress, supporting READ Act implementation, and partnering with teachers and the Learning Coordinator to strengthen instructional practices through the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process.

The Interventionist collaborates with staff to ensure all students have access to effective instruction aligned with district curriculum, academic standards, and schoolwide instructional expectations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Targeted Academic Intervention

  • Provide direct instructional support to identified students through small-group and/or individual intervention in reading and/or mathematics.
  • Differentiate instruction to address skill deficits and accelerate student learning.
  • Foster academic confidence, executive functioning skills, and independent learning behaviors.
  • Conduct screening and diagnostic assessments as assigned. Monitor student progress regularly using curriculum-based measures and assessment tools.
  • Provide student progress data to PLC and MTSS teams to support instructional decision-making.
  • Support re-entry academic planning for students experiencing attendance gaps or interrupted learning.

MTSS Instructional Planning & Support

  • Develop and implement appropriate instructional strategies for students identified through MTSS plans.
  • Design targeted supports addressing individual learning needs while maintaining alignment with Tier I instruction.
  • Support teachers in applying universal (Tier I) instructional strategies that improve access and outcomes for all learners.Assist teachers in identifying scaffolds, accommodations, and differentiation practices within the general education classroom.
  • Partner with the Learning Coordinator to develop layered systems of academic support aligned to MTSS frameworks.
  • Assist in planning and supporting intervention opportunities beyond the regular school day, including Friday School, Summer School, and other extended learning programs.

READ Act & Literacy Monitoring

  • Monitor the academic progress of all students identified with READ Plans in accordance with Colorado READ Act requirements.
  • Maintain and update READ Plan documentation, including assessment and progress monitoring data.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure READ Plan supports are implemented consistently within Tier I instruction.

5. PLC Collaboration & Instructional Partnership

  • Partner with the Learning Coordinator to support teachers in instructional planning and implementation through the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process.
  • Model effective instructional strategies and supports when appropriate.
  • Promote alignment between intervention instruction, classroom practices, and schoolwide instructional expectations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Understanding of MTSS framework and tiered instruction
  • Knowledge of evidence-based literacy and/or mathematics intervention practices
  • Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction accordingly
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills within PLC structures
  • Ability to build positive relationships with middle school students
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
     

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution preferred
  • Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with administrators, teachers, students and family members.
  • Proven experience as an effective classroom educator
  • Ability to maintain individual student records and files.
  • Ability to discipline students in keeping with school and district procedures.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge of effective instructional strategies.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Valid Colorado Teaching License required
  • Experience with academic intervention or targeted instruction preferred
  • Knowledge of Colorado READ Act requirements

Must be able to operate a personal computer and common business software, including word processing and spreadsheet programs. Must be able to assume tasks of other staff members in their absence or at periods requiring assistance.

Physical Abilities: Requires sufficient visual acuity to recognize words and numbers and operate business equipment.

Requires hand-eye-arm coordination to use common business equipment, including a personal computer keyboard.

Requires the ability to lift light to moderate weight objects (10-25 pounds) on an occasional basis, sufficient ambulatory

ability to stand for sustained periods of time.

Language Skills:  Ability to read and analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 

Other Skills and Abilities:  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to run; stoop and kneel.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50lbs.  The employee must occasionally push items of 75lbs. or more, such as pushing children on a bike or moving/rearranging furniture.  Specific vision abilities required by this include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
