Bulldog Academy Teacher

Job Title: Bulldog Academy Teacher: 


Job Summary:  The Bulldog Academy Teacher serves as a member of the 6-12 secondary teaching team that supports students that are engaged in virtual learning.  Students that choose the Bulldog Academy learning path may be students:

**Looking for a unique learning path with a self-paced, challenging core content 

   curriculum

**Needing credit recovery opportunities

**Desiring a more flexible learning opportunity

**Needing/wanting to enter the workforce early

**With a preference to learn on their own time, in their own space, and independently

**Whom have been removed from a class or school due to disciplinary measures 


 

The Bulldog Academy teacher will be responsible for monitoring learning through the use of the district’s chosen virtual learning technology platform, ensuring they are being challenged and supported appropriately, meeting their individual goals and the district’s eligibility and graduation requirements while staying in sync with the district’s attendance, behavior, and student code of conduct policies. 


 

The Bulldog Academy teacher must be flexible, creative, organized, technologically independent and savvy, familiar with the CSS and be willing to learn the content’s established priority standards. Training on the program used to support the Bulldog Academy will be provided .


 

Other duties and responsibilities may be delegated/assigned by the Executive Director of Secondary Education and/or Director of Secondary Education as necessary within reason.


 

Salary:  Salary commensurate with experience and education level on the district’s Certified Salary Schedule.

Education, Experience and Certifications :  Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university in education or related field.  Meets the requirements of the Colorado Department of Education for Secondary Education in at least one content area or endorsement field, or the ability to obtain during the first year of employment in the position.  Knowledge and passion around working with at-risk populations and secondary students. Works well with team members within collaborative processes, while being able to work independently.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Other duties may be assigned.



 

  • Work closely with teachers, advisors, and the school counselor, providing programming and practices that embrace and incorporate the guiding principles of a positive behavior system, while maintaining transparent data to ensure the practices are being followed with fidelity.
  • Collaborates with administrators and leadership teams to fulfill traditional discipline processes and utilize alternatives to traditional school discipline and consequences.
  • Monitors attendance through a daily check in method and logs accordingly
  • Monitors work completion and grades in accordance to eligibility, student goals, and Bulldog Academy expectations
  • Maintains forward momentum in working towards credit expectations for the purpose of MCSD graduation requirements for all students participating in the Bulldog Academy
  • Mentors/advises students to ensure they are working towards meeting graduation requirements
  • Assist in the implementation of policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to student behavior and attendance as it relates to the expectations outlined in the Student Handbook
  • Communicate with students, parents, and staff in a timely manner regarding student behavior and attendance in accordance with Staff Handbook
  • Maintain a commitment to learning about best practices in student management and attendance. 
  • Attend/lead special meetings to engage in conversations involving student behavior and attendance. 
  • Participate in professional growth to improve skills related to the job assignment. 
  • Establishes and holds students accountable to expectations when attending the Bulldog Academy classroom
  • Perform supervision of students during unstructured times such as before and after school, during passing times and during lunch periods as assigned by administration
  • Make recommendations concerning the revision and updating of student code of conduct, rules, regulations, and handbooks in regards to the Bulldog Academy and blended learning opportunities
  • Perform such record-keeping functions as the Executive Director/Director of Secondary may request, including entry of behavior events in the student information system and producing and sending documentation related to behavior events to families as required by policy or statute.
  • Works directly with academically and socially challenged students, in partnership with building teachers, administrators, counselors and parents as needed
  • Engage in goal setting with students engaging in the Bulldog Academy
  • Encourages and motivates students to develop independence, self-confidence, to achieve their full potential.
  • Create and facilitate an effective process to establish and maintain behavior, attendance and other student plans as needed. 
  • Attends staff meetings, district meetings and/or in-service training programs and serves on various committees as required.
  • Collects, analyzes and maintains student data and information. 
  • Maintains students confidentially.
  • Documents behavioral and attendance records in the district assigned data systems in a timely manner 
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers, parents, administrators, etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues, providing information and/or direction in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Ensure layers of intervention are in place and implemented to support students in alternative settings:
    • Student progress towards objectives, course and graduation expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, other teachers, and administration.
    • Partnerships with appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating student progress and/or making referrals. 
    • It serves as an effective classroom program and addresses the needs of individual students. 
    • All safety protocols are followed: Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students and adhering to education code and school policies. 
  • Supports classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans.
  • Attends extracurricular activities, programs, activities as designated throughout MCSD.
