Reptile Educator and Handler: Queens, NY
Position Overview:
We are seeking a charismatic Reptile Show Performer to join our team. As a Reptile Show Performer, you will be the star of the show, entertaining children, families, and guests with live reptile demonstrations, hands-on experiences, and educational fun. You’ll bring energy, knowledge, and a passion for reptiles to every event, ensuring a memorable experience for all attendees.
Bookings will be offered as they come up, allowing for an extremely flexible schedule. A perfect year round or summer position for college students!
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform Interactive Reptile Shows: Lead engaging, hands-on reptile presentations at parties, school events, festivals, and other functions, showcasing a variety of reptiles (snakes, turtles, lizards, etc.).
- Educate and Entertain: Provide fun facts and educational information about the reptiles you handle, answering questions and engaging with guests of all ages.
- Maintain Animal Safety: Handle all reptiles with care, ensuring their well-being and safety during performances.
- Engage with Guests: Create a fun and memorable experience for all guests by interacting with children and adults, encouraging them to learn more and touch or hold the reptiles.
- Travel to Event Locations: Perform at off-site locations such as birthday parties, school assemblies, and corporate events. Transport reptiles safely to and from these locations.
- Promote Safety: Ensure all guests follow safety guidelines during the reptile encounters and ensure the safe handling of all animals at events.
Qualifications:
- Passion for Reptiles: Strong interest in reptiles, including knowledge of various species, behavior, and care.
- Experience: Previous experience working with children and/or animals (reptiles preferred) is a plus. If you don’t have experience, a willingness to learn on the job is key. Strong public speaking skills are needed.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to engage, entertain, and educate diverse audiences, especially children.
- Comfort with Live Animals: Must be comfortable handling a variety of reptiles in front of audiences. Prior experience handling snakes, lizards, turtles, and other reptiles is preferred but not required.
- Personality: Enthusiastic, outgoing, and able to captivate an audience. A sense of humor and the ability to think on your feet are essential for success.
- Availability: Flexible schedule is best.
- Valid Driver’s License and Vehicle: Must be able to transport reptiles to various locations in a safe and responsible manner. Transportation must be reliable
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience performing or leading events (theatrical, educational, or entertainment roles).
- Experience with and knowledge on reptiles.
- Experience working with children in a chaotic, fast paced, environment.
- 18 years or older.
- Possess a driver's license and a vehicle for transportation.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Located within a reasonable distance from Ozone Park, Queens.
Compensation:
- $75 per hour long show plus generous tips.
- Compensation for time, gas, and tolls through travel fees.
- Opportunities for tips and bonuses.
