Data & Business Systems Intern
Data & Business Systems Intern
Trade Press Media Group | Summer 2026 Internship | Wauwatosa, WI
You'll work alongside operations and sales teams to improve how we organize, track, and act on business data. This role focuses on building practical internal tools, dashboards, and workflows within the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, with opportunities to incorporate AI where it adds real value.
You do not need to be an expert in every tool listed. We are looking for curious, practical problem-solvers who can learn quickly, ask good questions and help turn messy business needs into useful tools or workflows.
This is a strong fit for a rising junior or senior (seniors preferred) studying data analytics, computer science, information systems, or a related technical field who wants to build tools that people inside a real company actually use every day.
What You'll Work On
- Build and maintain dashboards and reporting views that help teams understand and monitor business operations and performance
- Develop lightweight tracking and workflow tools within the Microsoft 365 environment (SharePoint, Teams, Power Automate)
- Audit and clean operational data to improve accuracy and reliability of reporting
- Identify manual or repetitive processes and prototype automation solutions
- Support audience data operations and sales targeting efforts with structured, reliable data
- Use AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude to assist with research, categorization, and content tasks
This internship will involve a mix of structured projects and real-world problem solving. Some assignments may involve dashboards, forms, workflow tools, campaign tracking, audience data, documentation or AI-assisted research. The exact project mix will depend on business needs and the intern's experience, strengths and interests.
What You'll Learn
- How to scope and deliver internal tools that non-technical teams can actually use
- Practical business intelligence and workflow automation in a live business environment
- How B2B media companies use operational data to make decisions across sales, marketing, and content
- Translating vague business needs into structured technical requirements
- Documentation and handoff practices that make your work last beyond the internship
Who This Is For
- Rising junior or senior (seniors preferred) pursuing a degree in data analytics, computer science, information systems, or related technical field
- Comfortable working with data in spreadsheets and databases
- Familiarity with at least one technical tool or language, such as advanced Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI, Power Automate or similar
- Experience using AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude (even for coursework or personal projects)
- Strong problem-solving instincts and a tendency to ask why something works the way it does
- Able to work on-site in Wauwatosa, WI on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
Applicants will be asked to share an example of a project, class assignment, dashboard, automation, tracker, website, workflow or other tool they have helped create or improve.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Power BI, Power Automate, or SharePoint
- Familiarity with building structured views, forms, or trackers in Microsoft 365
- Any experience creating tools or dashboards that other people have actually used
- Exposure to SQL or database concepts beyond intro coursework
What You'll Get
- Hands-on experience building internal tools at a multi-brand B2B media company
- Exposure to how content, events, marketing, and sales work together
- Mentorship from experienced operations and sales leaders
- Real deliverables with measurable impact
- Potential for full-time employment post-graduation based on performance and fit
