Educational Talent Search Instructor

RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DESCRIPTION:
Educational Talent Search (ETS) Instructor is responsible for providing engaging academic instruction to ETS participants during our Summer Program on the UC Riverside campus. This includes but is not limited to: planning engaging lessons, managing a classroom, monitoring student progress, collaborating with ETS staff, and providing group and one-on-one instruction. Instructors are expected to actively engage students, be positive role models, and ensure a safe and supportive learning space for all students. The Summer Instructors teach courses focused on one or more of the following subjects: high school math, high school English, and/or college level STEM,). QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field/major.
Must have the ability to teach high school students in either Mathematics or English.
Must be able to pass a Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation background check.
Should have experience teaching, tutoring, and/or being a TA.
Should be energetic and motivated to instruct/teach low income/first generation students.
Should possess good interpersonal skills, communication, and a positive attitude.
Must be able to work during the hours of 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. Sunday– Tuesday.
Must be able to work from June 28th through June 30th.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Together with the Educational Talent Search (ETS) Assistant Director (AD), develop curriculum and produce lessons for the ETS Summer Program.
Teach core concepts in high school Mathematics or English Language Arts utilizing defined curriculum, special assignments, and/or activities to groups of 30 – 40 students during the ETS summer program.
Plan and teach a course aligned with HS Common Core Standards or teach college level research techniques and procedures in the humanities/social sciences and science or mathematics disciplines and guide students in developing independent projects.
Provide group instruction to ETS students.
Maintain an effectively managed classroom to promote learning for all students.
Attend scheduled curriculum meetings with the AD.
Maintain and update an electronic grade-book.
Other duties as assigned.
