Judicial Assistant-Domestic Relations Division

POSITION TITLE: Judicial Assistant — Domestic Relations Division (full-time)


WORK LOCATION: On-Site — remote work is not available


HOURS: 8:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m. Monday–Thursday; 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon Friday (1-hour unpaid lunch; 35-hour workweek)


ANNUAL SALARY: Salary starts at a minimum of the mid-$40,000s, with higher compensation based on experience and certifications

The Hancock County Common Pleas Court, Domestic Relations Division, is now accepting applications for a full-time Judicial Assistant. Domestic Relations is a specialized division of the Common Pleas Court that handles some of the most personal and emotionally charged legal matters brought before the Court, including divorce, dissolution of marriage, legal separation, annulment, domestic violence, civil protection orders, and child custody and support proceedings. This position involves a high volume of direct public contact-both in person and by telephone-with individuals who are often experiencing significant personal distress. The ideal candidate will bring strong administrative skills along with the composure, empathy, and professionalism required to serve the public effectively in a demanding, high-stakes environment.


GENERAL DUTIES: Plan, organize, and coordinate all aspects of the assigned Judge’s docket and courtroom operations; manage daily courtroom set-up, technology, and case flow; prepare and process judgment entries, orders, warrants/commitments, decisions, correspondence, and efilings; serve as assignment commissioner for pretrial conferences, hearings, and trials; track all efilings at least twice monthly; set up and manage remote hearings (phone, Zoom, Microsoft Teams); coordinate case-related interactions with outside agencies; maintain records and prepare monthly Supreme Court statistical reports and annual physical case file inventory; maintain trial exhibits and coordinate transcript preparation and appellate record transmittal; manage jury-related matters in coordination with the Jury Manager, including courtroom and JuryView set-up, juror liaison, and juror supervision; assist in other courtrooms as directed; maintain strict confidentiality and conduct oneself in a manner that upholds the integrity and impartiality of the Court at all times; perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or paralegal certification preferred. Prior experience in a courthouse setting and experience in domestic relations matters desirable. Two years of administrative or executive assistant experience, or five years as a principal office assistant in a law-related or court-related setting. Superior verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact tactfully and professionally with judges, attorneys, court staff, law enforcement, and the public. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat Pro preferred; must be able to learn the Court’s case management system and electronic filing programs. Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities with interruptions. Professionalism, discretion, integrity, and sound judgment required. Must be able to cope with the emotional and mental demands of the position.
