STEM Education Fellow in Tanzania

Tanzania Education Corporation (TEC) is seeking a curious, adaptable, and mission-driven STEM educator to support technology and computer science programming at a high-performing secondary school in northern Tanzania. This is a unique opportunity to live and work in rural East Africa while helping students build digital, programming, and emerging technology skills.

About TEC & Tumaini Schools

Tanzania Education Corporation (TEC) is a Boston based NGO whose mission is to Educate the Future Leaders of Tanzania. TEC has worked with Tumaini Junior School, a high performing K-7 primary school in the town of Karatu since 2009. Tumaini Junior School has consistently ranked in the top 1% of schools in the country. Tumaini Senior Secondary School is a six year (O and A levels) secondary school (equivalent to middle and high school), which opened in January, 2016. Located an hour from Arusha in Makuyuni village, this school has a focus on science and technology. TEC has developed a STEM education program to introduce students to computer science, programming, digital literacy, and emerging technologies including artificial intelligence.

Program Goals

  1. Provide students with digital skills to help them be more competitive in their further education or employment
  2. Introduce students to foundational concepts and projects in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies
  3. Support Tanzanian teachers in integrating technology into classroom instruction

Responsibilities

  • Teach computer and technology classes for students in Forms 1-3
  • Support students learning typing, digital literacy, programming, and introductory computer science
  • Guide student projects and independent learning opportunities in Forms 4 and 5
  • Oversee open lab time and encourage student-led projects and creativity
  • Assist with maintenance and organization of the school computer lab
  • Support Tanzanian teachers in building technology skills and confidence
  • Help strengthen and expand TEC’s existing STEM curriculum, including introductory AI concepts and projects

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • IT proficiency demonstrated through coursework or relevant work experience
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as HTML, Javascript, Python or similar
  • Interest in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies
  • Teaching experience and international experience are both desirable
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across cultures
  • Independent, flexible, and proactive personality

Position & Compensation Details:

  • Start Date: July 6th 2026 ( beginning of the next school term)
  • Commitment: One Year
  • On-campus housing provided
  • Monthly living stipend of $500
  • One-way airfare to Tanzania at the start of employment and a return one-way airfare to the U.S. after at least 12 months (up to $1,700 total)
  • Relevant Tanzanian Visa fees covered by TEC
  • Reimbursement for approved work-related expense
  • Three weeks of paid vacation during school closure.
