Summary / Objective
The automotive supplier is seeking an Assembly Process Engineer responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and improving assembly manufacturing processes. This role supports efficient production operations while ensuring compliance with quality standards, safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
The Assembly Process Engineer plays a critical role in troubleshooting molded components during launch and early production phases, maintaining process quality, supporting operational targets, and improving collaboration across departments to enhance overall business performance.
Candidate must relocate to Troy, Michigan area. No sponsorships are considered at this time.
Essential Duties
- Perform research and process evaluations to develop and improve assembly manufacturing methods and procedures
- Promote and maintain a safe working environment through initiatives such as 6S practices, ergonomic improvements, and job rotation programs
- Develop processes and methods for component separation and assembly operations
- Assist with equipment layout planning and production floor organization
- Conduct testing activities and monitor process performance throughout manufacturing operations
- Follow all IATF-16949 and ISO-14001 procedures, standards, and compliance requirements
- Maintain adherence to company policies, procedures, and operational regulations
- Support production goals by balancing quality, productivity, cost, safety, and employee morale
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations and processes
- Manage non-conforming material processes to ensure inventory accuracy and proper tracking within the department
- Collaborate with the Quality Department regarding corrective and preventive actions related to customer concerns and internal quality issues
- Monitor and support key performance indicators including safety, quality, productivity, delivery, labor efficiency, scrap reduction, and cost performance
- Evaluate assigned production areas for opportunities to improve manufacturing methods, communication, reporting processes, and cost efficiency while recommending improvements to appropriate departments
- Lead and participate in daily production meetings to review operational performance and priorities
- Verify that first-piece approvals are completed and approved by Quality Inspectors prior to production runs
- Document process concerns, production issues, and engineering changes while developing corrective action plans with management
- Communicate regularly with multiple departments and various levels of management through meetings, email, phone, and direct interaction to support efficient operations
- Perform additional duties and special assignments as directed by management
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience in a leadership or engineering role
- Strong leadership and team coordination abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities
- Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing and production processes
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and general computer systems
- Experience working with SAP and MES software systems
- Basic knowledge and understanding of OSHA safety standards
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
- Additional experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Ability to adapt to changing production schedules and make decisions effectively in high-pressure situations
