UP Robotics | Bethesda, MD | $20–$30/hr | October – Mid-December
ABOUT UP ROBOTICS
UP Robotics is a youth robotics enrichment and competitive team program based in Bethesda, MD. We serve students from foundational building classes through high-level competitive teams in FLL, FTC, and VEX IQ. Our competitive teams don't just build robots — they learn to present, communicate, and defend their work in front of judges.
THE ROLE
We're hiring a part-time Communications Coach to work with our 11 competitive robotics teams during the fall competition season (October through mid-January). Your job is to help students — mostly ages 10–15 — develop the presentation, public speaking, and communication skills they need to excel at competitions.
This is a project-based, seasonal role with flexible scheduling. You'll work directly with teams during their regular practice sessions and in dedicated coaching sessions as needed.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Coach students on verbal communication, clarity, and confidence in presenting their team's project and robot design
- - Help teams structure and rehearse their judging presentations, project pitches, as well as develop posters and visual aids.
- - Give constructive feedback in a way that's age-appropriate and encouraging
- - Collaborate with our robotics coaches to align communication skills with competition rubrics
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Background in speech, communications, education, theater, debate, or a related field
- - Experience working with kids or teens strongly preferred
- - Ability to break down complex communication concepts for young learners
- - Comfortable with a fast-moving, project-based environment
- - Familiarity with robotics or STEM competitions is a plus, but not required
SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
- Part-time, ~[X] hours/week during the season
- - September through January 2026
- - $20–$30/hour depending on experience
- - In-person at our Bethesda facility (7801 Woodmont Ave)
