Communications Intern

Getting Smart, a learning design firm focused on the future of education, is looking for a student interested in learning the ins and outs of running a highly visible digital publication and media channel. We are seeking someone who enjoys experimenting with content, measuring impact, is eager to learn, well-versed in technology, and motivated by challenge. 

Timeline

Applications open until June 15, 2026. Internships begin July 15, 2026 and end December 31, 2026. 

The Role

A Getting Smart Communications intern is someone who is interested in piloting new content ideas, growing the digital footprint of a company, and is interested in thinking about audience and user behavior. This person is someone who values thinking outside of the box as well as the importance of data. They will work most closely with the Partner, Media and Storytelling position.

Commitment and Compensation

This role will receive a stipend and is open to US residents. We are looking for an 18+ year-old who is interested in working ~10 hours a week.

Experiences

  1. Social Media Drafting and Scheduling: Drafting social media posts for LinkedIn and Instagram to help grow our digital footprint and try new approaches to sharing media. This will likely emphasize short-form video. They will also help identify new strategies for building communities on each platform, research media trends, and support the creation of written and visual content. 
  2. Data Support: Pulling social, YouTube, and site analytics into reports and learning about audience, data, and traffic through participation in recurring data meetings. These meetings will help inform future strategies and experiments.
  3. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and AIO (AI Optimization): Helping to maintain and update GettingSmart.com posts in accordance with the best AI Optimization and search engine optimization practices.
  4. Newsletter Optimization: Learning about newsletter best practices and helping to optimize and assemble our weekly newsletters.
  5. Editorial Input: Supporting our storytelling team in ensuring relevant and learner-inclusive content. 
  6. Education Landscape Research: Support Getting Smart staff in discovery and organization of innovative schools and systems to help increase amplification of best practices.
  7. Internship Capstone: An opportunity to demonstrate learned skills in a culminating project or demonstration of learning.

The Details

  • A stipend of $200/week (approximately 10 hours of work)
  • Remote and flexible working environment
  • Intern must provide their own reliable wifi and device. Both a laptop and a phone will be required for this role.
