Assistant Director of Student and Community Life
Chatham Hall seeks a dynamic, student-centered leader to serve as Assistant Director of Student and Community Life. This position plays a key role in shaping the student experience by supporting residential life, student wellness, leadership development, and community engagement in a mission-driven boarding school environment.
As a member of the Administrative Leadership Team, the Assistant Director partners closely with the Director of Student and Community Life, faculty, staff, dorm advisors, student leaders, and families to cultivate a healthy, inclusive, and accountable community where students are empowered to grow as leaders and engaged citizens.
The ideal candidate is relational, organized, collaborative, and passionate about adolescent development, community building, and residential education.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and help lead the residential life program, including supervision and support of dorm advisors and residential programming.
- Foster a positive and inclusive community culture grounded in Chatham Hall’s Honor Code, Purple and Gold Rule, and Civil Discourse Statement.
- Serve as a visible and engaged presence in student life, including evening and weekend responsibilities.
- Partner with the Director of Student and Community Life to support student accountability, attendance, decision-making, and restorative conversations.
- Help design and implement student wellness and leadership programming, including Chatham 101 and 401.
- Oversee and support student organizations, leadership initiatives, service learning, and student elections.
- Assist with major community programs and events, including student orientation and advisory programming.
- Collaborate with the Student Activities and Club Coordinator and other campus partners to enhance student engagement and belonging.
- Support off-campus permissions and student travel processes.
- Serve in residential life responsibilities, including duty rotations, advising, and class sponsorship.
- Contribute meaningfully to the broader life of the school through academics, coaching, afternoon programming, or serving as a Lead Dorm Advisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in residential life, boarding schools, student affairs, or adolescent development.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive community for students of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with professionalism, flexibility, and a collaborative spirit.
- Passion for mentoring and supporting students as they develop confidence, agency, leadership, and purpose.
