Environmental Compliance Engineering Co-op

Job Description:

AYER Quality Engineering LLC (AYER) is seeking an engineering (chemical or environmental preferred) co-op for the fall 2026 term (August through December). AYER engineers are knowledgeable about environmental compliance and share a drive for helping our clients meet their business goals without compromising their commitments to environmental, health, and safety (EHS).

This role is for self-motivated, coachable individuals who are interested in learning about environmental compliance. This role will involve assisting senior engineers in projects, along with working individually with guidance from senior engineers as needed, while collaborating in a team environment.

You will have the opportunity to work with manufacturers across a wide range of sizes, locations, and industry specializations, gaining knowledge and skills in a variety of environmental programs with a focus on air permitting. While most clients are based near Cincinnati, AYER has clients all over the country, therefore there is some opportunity to travel with other engineers in this role. 

This role requires the use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions. This posting is for U.S. Citizens, only. Proof of citizenship is required. Applicants will be subject to a background check and a drug screen.

What you’ll learn:

• What air permitting and day-to-day compliance look like at real manufacturing sites.
• How to run emissions calculations and keep technical data organized in Excel.
• How to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.

Responsibilities:

• Help our engineers prepare environmental compliance reports, applicability reviews and emission calculations with assistance from experienced engineers.
• Perform routine environmental compliance services for several clients including recordkeeping and inspections.
• Maintain an elevated level of professionalism, communication, and attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree engineering program (chemical/environmental preferred).
• Solid engineering fundamentals, including proficiency in Excel.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated, dependable, comfortable with understanding and meeting deadlines.
• Effective organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and communicate proactively.
