Students in Grades K–12 attend school in dress code for 200 instructional days each year, and the school day is extended by 60 minutes beyond that of most traditional public schools. Job Description
The Science Teacher is responsible for implementing Mystic Valley Regional Charter School’s Science program for students in Grades 7–12. Instruction is delivered in alignment with the Core Knowledge curriculum and methodology. Mystic Valley’s high school program also features the rigorous and internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, and high school teaching assignments may include IB coursework.
Responsibilities
- Execute a program of study aligned with documented curricula and, when applicable, IB standards and methodology
- Teach up to five daily subject-area classes
- Deliver instruction based on clear learning objectives and effective lesson planning
- Assess student progress regularly and provide progress reports and report cards as required
- Administer standardized testing as directed by the Science Department Chair and Leadership Team
- Collaborate weekly with members of the Science Department, including the Department Chair, on curriculum, instruction, assessment, data analysis, and methodology
- Implement the school’s assertive discipline model with fidelity to maintain a structured and productive classroom environment
- Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Science Department Chair and/or Assistant Director
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, General Science, or a related field
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to write reports, correspondence, and instructional documentation effectively
- Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and make sound recommendations and decisions
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the broader school community
- Ability to perform duties in accordance with school policies as well as state and federal regulations
- Experience assessing student performance and preparing reports that summarize findings and progress
- Strong collaboration, instructional, coaching, and leadership skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of specialized science content and related educational practices and procedures
- Ability to design and implement lessons that align with school objectives and meet the needs of assigned students
- Successful completion of applicable MTEL examinations within one year of employment
This position reports directly to the Science Department Chair. The position is evaluated annually and is considered an annual appointment.
