Summary of Position Details:

The AmeriCorps VISTA member will strengthen and expand university–community partnerships addressing health access, legal aid, and economic stability in the greater Charlottesville area. Madison House, the University of Virginia’s student-led volunteer center, connects nearly 2,000 student volunteers each year with local nonprofits, schools, and public service organizations.

In recent years, Madison House has experienced significant unmet demand from both students seeking meaningful service opportunities and community partners seeking volunteer support. Many UVA students pursuing careers in health care, law, and business are eager to gain hands-on experience through community-engaged learning. The VISTA member will help expand Madison House’s ability to meet this demand by developing systems that support partnership development, volunteer coordination, and program infrastructure. Year one will focus on community assessment, gathering feedback from student leaders, partnership development, volunteer role design, and creating data systems to support long-term program evaluation.

  • Build relationships with local nonprofits to develop new service opportunities for UVA students
  • Help design meaningful volunteer roles that align community needs with students’ interests in fields such as health, law, and business
  • Work with Madison House student leaders to strengthen recruitment strategies for high-impact service programs
  • Create practical resources and toolkits that help community partners successfully engage student volunteers
