Public Policy Intern – Metro Meals on Wheels
Metro Meals on Wheels is the association of nearly 30 Meals on Wheels programs in the Twin Cities metro area. Along with our program partners, we lead the effort to ensure people in our community receive nutritious meals and the human connection they need to live independently.
We are seeking a Public Policy Intern to help our team engage with elected officials and coordinate advocacy efforts. This role focuses on the logistics of scheduling, tracking, and organizing site visits that educate policymakers on the impact of our mission.
Responsibilities
This position offers support to the Metro Meals on Wheels office through administrative and coordination tasks, including:
- Legislative Scheduling: Coordinating and scheduling meetings and site visits for elected officials to learn more about how Metro Meals on Wheels operates.
- Event Organizing: Assisting with the logistics and planning of site visits to ensure a successful experience for officials and program partners.
- Tracking & Documentation: Creating and maintaining a system to track all meetings, site visits, and follow-up actions with elected officials.
- Data Support: Entering relevant partner information into the donor database and assisting with short-term data-entry projects.
- Administrative Support: Creating and processing professional correspondence, such as thank you letters to officials and partners.
Qualifications
- Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
- Tech Skills: Ability to operate a computer and basic software.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to work independently and as part of a team to manage schedules and tracking systems.
- Interests: An interest in a career in public policy, nonprofit management, or a related field.
- Transportation: Transportation to Metro Meals on Wheels office which includes a free parking lot and access to public transportation. The office is walkable from campus, depending on your location.
Position Details & Benefits
- Compensation: $19 per hour.
- Schedule: 10–20 hours per week, scheduled Monday–Friday between 9am–3pm.
- Experience: Gain valuable nonprofit and administrative experience to build your resume.
- Networking: Work with a variety of hunger-related nonprofit organizations and stakeholders.
- Reference: A letter of reference will be provided after three months of service.
